How much needle is too much needle? In this video I show you all up close and in real time different variations of needle depth from riding the tube and what too much needle looks like. When I started tattooing I would hang my needle out just enough to get what I "needed" into the correct part of the practice skin, aka riding the tube. I quickly learned that the "riding the tube" approach just blows all in general, well at least for me. When I was approaching tattooing like this one thing i remember off the top was that my fake skin would collect an excessive amount of ink because the tip of the tube was acting as more of a ink pen over a tattoo machine. I took a lot of time, hung my needle out more and just practiced lines and more lines on fake skin. I started to notice that as I hung my needle out I was able to achieve more details with say for example a #103RL, while keeping my skin cleaner and neater upon tattooing. Practice hanging out your needle and pulling lines on a fake skin to establish muscle memory and this also helps you establish that consistency required to pull nice, even, solid, saturated lines.
