But for Batman, they also inserted him into sci-fi stories every issue, meeting aliens, monsters, and giving Batman strange powers. In this episode, I argue that giving us Mummy Batman, Merman Batman, Baby Batman and more just fatigued the reader. They wanted a detective fighting criminals at night. The episode goes into many of the more bizarre stories Batman and Robin engaged in between 1957 and 1964, discusses the sagging sales numbers, and takes a close look at the people involved behind the scenes to figure out how this all happened. Because Batman was almost canceled due to its low sales. Creators and editors like Bill Finger, Sheldon Moldoff, Jack Schiff, Irwin Donenfeld, Julius Schwartz and Carmine Infantino all factor in.
