Harrowing scenes from Strike Witches and Brave Witches edited to Sabaton's "Soldier of Heaven." There is not a useable scenario in the World Witches animes to match fighting and freezing to death in the alps -- except for Brave Witches's aptly named Episode 5 "Deadly Battle in the Freezing Cold" (which upon initial inspection does not have enough material to use to avoid a copywrite claim) -- so I used a broad brush of interpretation for this AMV. The meaning of this song gave me the impression of soldiers going out to fight and never making it back home, and with some inspiration from The Dark Knight Rises's mention that there are many forms of immortality and Battlefield 1's "If history only remembers one in a thousand of us, then that future will be filled with stories of who we were and what we did," that set the precedent for this AMV to become a series of short stories of Mio, Minna, Takami, Hikari, and Shizuka heading into situations that can result in their death. And by telling their stories they will achieve a form of immortality by keeping their names and the stories of their actions alive. Keeping up with interpretating in broad brush strokes, multiple times I edited scenes to entire verses instead of indiviudal lines or words. Unlike "Metal Machine" and "Steel Commanders" I did not get an "action" or "fighting" vibe from "Soldier of Heaven," which puts it in a similar vein to "Christmas Truce," hence the many slow sections in the visuals, especially between Minna and Kurt and Shizuka and Yoshika. (Random Thought: Having witches in a song called "Soldier of Heaven" is ironic if using the original (medieval) perception of witches - female and male (mostly female) humans that make a pact with a familiar, and the familiar gives the witch power and acts as the middleman between the witch and a demon, and by extension, Hell. I took a class on heresy and witchcraft in the middle ages because why not. It counted towards my history credits.) Obviously, the song and footage used go to their rightful owners.
