So two days ago, we released a video discussing the travel restrictions for US citizens to the Philippines. Not long after posting that video, we came across a report from CNN discussing the possibility that the Philippines will briefly shut down it's airspace a little later this month. Now I know you're wondering what's going on. Well, apparently there have been multiple power outages this year at the Manila international airport. This, as you can imagine, have caused numerous cancellations, chaos and frustration among travelers. It is said that these cancellations have affected thousands of passengers. Besides, who wants to deal with delays when you're eager to get to your destination? One of the major new travel updates to the Philippines as a result of these outages, is that there are plans to close the entire country's airspace for six hours on May 17. This way they can fix all the faulty electrical equipment. Per the Senior Assistant General Manager of the Manila International Airport, Bryan Co, the entire Phillippines airspace will be shut down. The shut down will occur between 12 am and 6am local time. The good thing about this time frame is that there's not much air traffic during this time. Airlines will need to rearrange their flight schedules, and passengers should be warned ahead of time, so that they can make other arrangements as necessary. It's almost like preparing for a "blackout." Hopefully this is something that can be resolved quickly, however, safety is always first and foremost.
