Have you heard this common myth about strength training? 🚨 Strength training makes you bulky 👉🏻 A common misconception about heavy weight training, especially among women, is that lifting heavy weights will lead to a bulky-looking physique… Remember though, we are all different, and “strength” looks different on every single one of our bodies… strong doesn’t mean bulky! Strong is what makes you a better dancer! 💪 🔥YES, It’s true that lifting heavy will promote hypertrophy in muscles leading to a size increase… However, the idea that it leads to a “bulky” look is untrue. 💥To increase your muscle mass in a dramatic way you’d need to commit to a ridiculous amount of food and a very rigid training routine. The training dancers are doing in practice or in the school weight room is NOT enough to get “bulky.” Strength training can benefit your flexibility by strengthening the muscles needed to open the hips for your splits and strengthening “tight” areas like the hamstrings. Think about it like this… 💭 Your muscles feel tight because they’re weak and the body is going to tighten up to keep that area safe to protect it from its weakness.
