Fried calamari or squid works great as an appetizer or on a salad as shown in the photo. Scroll down for a list of all the ingredients and measurements you'll need to make your salt and pepper squid. For the sauce: 1/2 cup of white sugar 1/2 teaspoon of salt 3/4 cup of water 1/4 cup of white vinegar 1 tablespoon of cornstarch added to 4 tablespoons of cold water 3 red jalapeños 4 cloves of garlic Add all the ingredients EXCEPT the cold water and cornstarch to a food processor and blend until smooth. Add the mixture to a pan and cook over medium high until it starts to boil. Add the cornstarch and water mixture, stir occasionally until the consistency turns thick. For the squid: 1 pound of frozen or fresh squid (calamari) 1 1/2 cups of cornstarch or flour of salt 1 tablespoon of salt 1/2 tablespoon of black pepper 1 egg white light cooking oil Thoroughly clean the squid, checking carefully for any glass. Remove the glass and cut the squid along the edge. Cut in to 2 or 4 pieces (whichever you like) and score each piece diagonally. Mix your cornstarch or flour with the salt and pepper until it is blended evenly. Add each piece to the egg white, then lightly batter in the cornstarch/flour mixture. Fry the squid for about 5 minutes turning to make sure each side becomes crispy. They should curl up once they're in the oil. Remove from the oil after they begin to brown a bit, and place them on to a paper towel to absorb any excess oil. This recipe can be served with the jalapeño sauce on the side to dip, or can be enjoyed as a salad. Serve and enjoy! I made this video for you! I hope you love it. If you do, please subscribe.
