FIRST PUBLISHED 6 July 2016 The most effective way to prevent Chagas disease is to kill the bug that carries the disease. For rural regions, a rapid diagnosis test exists but needs to be confirmed with a blood test. It is hoped that new, more effective, more practical and shorter treatments will be available in the next few years.
