Normalizing the bicycle as a form of transportation has, for me, been an aspiration. In many cities today, using a bike to get around is viewed as an aberration, and that attitude is preventing us from improving our cities. But on a recent visit to Germany recently, I found that a place where cycling is a pretty common way of getting around, but that doesn't mean it's supported. Thanks to Dirk von Schneidemesser for articulating what was just a feeling that I couldn't quite put my finger on. 0:00 Introduction 1:04 Berlin and Hamburg as cycling cities 3:09 Understanding 'normalized but marginalized' 4:38 What it looks like in Hamburg 7:20 How the law supports the marginalization of cycling 7:58 My takeaways #cycling #bike #commuting A huge thanks to my sponsors this year.
