To work as a clinical psychologist in India you must obtain a license from the RCI - Rehabilitation Council of India The first step to do so is to complete your master's degree in psychology (MA/M.Sc) You can apply to universities offering a master's in psychology even if you’re from a non-psychology background. Once you are done with your master's you can either become a Clinical Psychologist or an Associate Clinical Psychologist to become a Clinical Psychologist opt for either: 1. M. Phil in Clinical Psychology 2. Psy.D in Clinical Psychology To become an Associate Clinical Psychologist opt for - 1. Professional Diploma in Clinical Psychology (Please note: The duties of an Associate Clinical Psychologist are limited to delivering clinical services to clients with mental illnesses and do not include autonomous academic responsibilities such as teaching or guiding clinical psychology students in academic departments while M. Phil qualified Clinical Psychologists can do both) Candidates interested in pursuing any course in the discipline of Clinical Psychology should only apply to RCI-accredited institutions. Any qualification gained after completing a course or training at a non-RCI recognised institution is not valid for employment or practice. Every year, a list of accredited institutions, together with the courses they provide, is published in the press for the general public's awareness. The same list can be found on their website http://www.rehabcouncil.nic.in (For your license, you have to apply at RCI after your course and furnish a list of documents that the RCI will evaluate and send it over.
