I purchased one of each, and demonstrate the uses of the HEX version in this video. The hex can be used to hold round stock in standard vice jaws. It can also be used to hold round stock in a 3 jaw or 6 jaw lathe chuck. The SQUARE version will allow you to hold round stock in standard vice jaws. In addition, you can use the square version in a 4 jaw chuck on the lathe. That way the collet chuck can be centered once with the 4 jaw chuck, and stock can be taken in and out of the ER collet with relative good repeatability.
