Yasmin Levy - Me Voy (I am Leaving) Yasmin Levy (born December 23, 1975) is an Israeli singer-songwriter of Judeo-Spanish music. Levy is of Sephardic Jewish descent. With her distinctive and emotive style, Levy has brought a new interpretation to the medieval Judeo-Spanish (Ladino) song by incorporating more «modern» sounds of Andalusian flamenco and traditional Turkish music as well as combining instruments like the darbuka, oud, violin, cello, and piano. As a world music singer, Yasmin Levy ignited interest in the Ladino music traditions of her family, weaving Greek, Turkish, and Persian elements into her soulful performances. Levy’s father Yitzhak was a cantor and researcher of Ladino history who edited Aki Yerushalayim, a Ladino language magazine, and passed on his love for his culture to his daughter. Growing up in the cultural melting pot of Jerusalem, Yasmin Levy absorbed the influences of American Jazz and Latin Flamenco as well as the music of Persia and her family’s native Turkey. She released her first album, Romance & Yasmin, in 2000, followed by La Juderia (the Jewish Quarter) in 2005. As of 2014 she has recorded seven albums. In 2008 she was honored with the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Award for promoting cross-cultural dialogue between musicians. On her second album, La Judería, she also covered the popular songs «Gracias a la Vida» by Violeta Parra and «Nací en Álamo» from the film Vengo, directed by Tony Gatlif, which in its original version won the 2001 César Award for Best Music Written for a Film (itself being a cover of «The Song of the Gypsies» (Greek: «Το Τραγούδι των Γύφτων»), written by Greek songwriter Dionysis Tsaknis in 1990). I' m leaving Lyrics in English: I want to forget the perfume of your body I want to forget the taste of your lips I want to have, once, A happy life That's why, I' m leaving... Thanks for all that you gave me Thanks for loving me But I don't have the illusion That you are my reason That's why, I' m leaving... Tell me what you've got 'Cause I can't forget you Look, look at me, my girl Look (at me) 'cause my soul is bleeding Oh oh oh...
