Held from 5 to 21 August 2016, the Games have provided the best possible environment for peak performances. Athletes had enjoyed world-class facilities, including a superb village, all located in one of the world’s most beautiful cities, in a compact layout for maximum convenience. Having been awarded the event in October 2009, the Rio Games also celebrated and showcased sport, thanks to the city’s stunning setting and a desire to lift event presentation to new heights. More than 11,000 athletes from 207 nations took part in the Rio Olympiad, including first-time entrants Kosovo, South Sudan, and an independent team of refugee athletes, in which the IOC had picked five to ten refugees to compete in the Games, in the context of the "worldwide refugee crisis", of which the then-ongoing European migrant crisis is a prominent part. The medal presentation tune for the Rio Olympics is entitled "Brazilian Fantasy", and being produced by Christy Nicolay alongside composer Alex de Faria, it had three different variations that reflect each 'style' of the sport - 'traditional', 'popular', and 'cool'. This here is the "Samba Funky Version" of the soundtrack, and it is heard during medal ceremonies for 'cool'-categorized events such as BMX, mountain bike and beach volleyball.
