Genesis has built a name by providing premium vehicles with excellent value, a strong warranty, and an eye-catching style. Its cars and SUVs are highly competitive with rivals from Europe and elsewhere but offer better warranties and are generally better equipped out of the box. That's the case with the brand's flagship sedan, the G90, which gets a refreshed design and a host of new features for 2023. Genesis has not yet elaborated on trim levels or pricing. Still, we know that the automaker is doing away with the previous model year's powertrain offerings in favor of a single turbocharged V6. The new G90 will be available with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. Genesis says the new G90 features its "most elegant interior yet." The automaker designed the car's "two-line" headlights to be as thin as possible and get specially designed running lights integrated with turn signal indicators and low/high beams. A clamshell hood design uses a single panel that combines the hood and fenders to eliminate unsightly panel gaps. Though large, the G90's profile hints at some athleticism. The taillights feature Genesis' unique two-line lighting elements echoing the car's headlight design. Various functional components such as the license plate and reverse lights are mounted low to mesh with the car's sleek design. The new G90 is Genesis' first car with an onboard fragrance system. Three fragrances are on offer: The Driver's Awakening, The Great Outdoors, and My Favorite Place. Aromas come in replaceable cartridges, and G90 occupants can control the system through the car's infotainment interface. Each of the car's seats features 10 air cells in the seatback and two in the cushion. The cells operate the massage function and can inflate/deflate to make entry and exit easier. The driver gets a panoramic digital display that includes the gauge cluster and navigation systems. Two panoramic roofs open the cabin to light above the first and second rows. Genesis says the rear seats come with the highest-quality materials and offer reclining functions. To keep rear passengers cocooned in luxury, Genesis implements features to isolate them from unnecessary sounds. A speaker in the driver's headrest projects warnings and other vehicle-related sounds only to the driver. A VIP seat features leg supports and a footrest that offers heating/ventilation. The previous G90 came with a choice of two engines, including a twin-turbo V6 and a 5.0-liter V8. Both engines are gone for the new model year, and in their place, Genesis installs a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The car has multiple cooling mechanisms to deliver efficient brake temperature control and proper engine temperatures. The G90 is an executive sedan meant to transport passengers in ultimate comfort, and Genesis updates the car's suspension and brakes to achieve that goal. A new Chauffeur braking mode allows drivers to adjust the braking force to suit preference and driving conditions. A multi-chamber air suspension system uses a front-mounted camera system to recognize road conditions and adapt accordingly. Sensors read when the car is traveling downhill and can elevate the G90's front wheels by up to 25mm to protect the car's undercarriage. Rear-wheel steering helps drivers maneuver the hefty vehicle in tight spaces. Genesis threw the kitchen sink at the new G90, adding all manner of comfort and entertainment tech. The car features recessed exterior door handles that extend to greet the driver upon approach, and an EasyClose system closes the doors without the passengers' help. The doors can also auto-close using a button on the outside door handle or key fob. The G90 also offers a fingerprint authentication system that allows drivers to start the car with their finger. A memory system adjusts seating position and other settings based on the driver's print. The G90 gets a "Virtual Venue" function that produces a 3D surround-sound experience. It works with the car's Bang & Olufsen 23-speaker stereo and can adapt to in-car sound conditions for the best audio quality. Genesis says the car offers a new "Mood Curator" function that adjusts interior ambient lighting, sound system settings, the car's interior fragrance system, massaging seats, and electric curtains. Back-seat passengers get the entire tech experience, too. An 8-inch touchscreen is mounted in the rear armrest with settings for climate controls, seating position, massage functions, rear curtain position, and lighting. The screen uses graphics and animation to guide users through the screen's various functions.
