In this guitar video lesson you're going to learn how to play more effective, interesting Blues licks using triads. I'm going to show the easy way to build your solos using triads and why it's so important - when you get used to this it will almost feel like cheating! The triads do virtually all the work for you, all you have to do is choose the 'colour tones' around the triad. This method has worked for everyone from T Bone Walker to Django Reinhardt, Larry Carlton to Robben Ford and many more. Why are triads more effective than scales for soloing? Well, a scale contains 7 or 8 notes and not all of them 'gel' with the chords you are playing over - you'll know this if your solos feel cluttered, confused or random. Triads however give you the 'greatest hits' of the chord, the root, third and fifth, the 'chord tones'. Think of these notes as your way IN and OUT of solos and all the other notes supply the colours in between.
