Tenor saxophonist Gene Patrick "Corky" Corcoran joined the Harry James Orchestra in the Fall of 1941. He was seventeen years old. He remained on the Band off and on for over thirty-five years. He was highly regarded by fellow Jazz musicians, and criticized, much as James was for his success. He died in his hometown of Tacoma, Washington at the age of 55.
