We ask that anyone who has the means to support these broadcasts consider contributing a cover charge or ticket price - just as you would to see to see these outstanding performers in a club or concert hall. Our suggested amount is $20 per person, but of course, any amount will help - and for those who are able to do more, we welcome that. While these streams can never replace the lost income these performers face, every little bit helps. PASO's chamber orchestra with Rodolfo Zanetti on bandoneon and Jaime Ibacache on electric guitar performs an evening of music by nuevo tango composer and master bandoneonist, Astor Piazzolla. Piazzolla revolutionized the tango infusing it with classical music and jazz. When he returned to Argentina from Europe in the 1950's, he was widely criticized for his new tango. But by the 1960's, he was a world-wide sensation. He composed soundtracks for movies and operas, and music for television. He recorded over 40 albums and performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls. Cellist Yo Yo Ma recorded his music, The Soul of Tango, which sold a million copies and won a Grammy award. Violinist Gideon Kramer, the Kronos Quartet, and Daniel Barenboim, are among the many famous musicians who have recorded his music. PASO is very excited to be back playing together. We have missed you and hope you will join us for this live streamed concert to mark the second concert of our 2021 season! This concert is made possible by the DC Commission on the Arts and the Humanities. Stay well and stay in touch.
