On the occasion of March 18th Martyrs’ Day and the 103rd anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory, a commemoration event in memory of the martyred people of our nation was held at Kabatas High School. As the students and teachers of Kabatas High School, we will always remember our heroic Martryrs with respect who have sacrificed their lives for the sake of our country. THE MARTYRED STUDENTS of KABATAS HIGH SCHOOL During the Balkan Wars (1912 - 1913), Battle of Çanakkale (1915 - 1916), Battle of Galicia (1916 - 1917), World War I (1914 - 1918) and Turkish War of Independence (1919 - 1923), Kabataş High School sent plenty of students and teachers to the battlefront. As all the senior class students attended these wars, none of them were able to graduate from the school between 1912 - 1913 and 1915 - 1916. Owing to the attendance of almost all the students and teachers to Turkish War of Independence, only 5 students could graduate from the school between 1919 - 1923, Some students of Kabatas High School lost their lives defending the sovereignty of the nation, hence a monument was built in memory of the martyred students. Each year, the Kabatas High School Martyrs’ Monument is a gathering place for the students and teachers to commemorate the Martyrs who sacrificed themselves for the sake of the country. ATATÜRK’S QUOTE REGARDING THE FOREIGN SOLDIERS AT THE BATTLE OF GALLIPOLI "Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives ... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side in this country of ours. You, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries, wipe away your tears. Your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land, they have become our sons as well."
