After at least five years in storage, and really wanting to have this grail in hand, I have built and painted my 1/2700 scale Zvezda (Yes, I got the Russian version not the Revell, way back when it hit!) Star Wars IMPERIAL STAR DESTROYER! And what a kit! And no, I did not light it!!!! Click MORE below for details on what I did! I may be the only builder on YouTube that did not light this kit! lol! I despise all the work that goes into lighting a model, and also really wanted to just PAINT this bad boy, so I went at it and enjoyed the heck out of it! To paint it, I used Vallejo grey shades, mainly SKY GREY, LIGHT GREY and NEUTRAL GREY, and variations of those mixed with lighter and darker greys and some browns, specifically, BURNT UMBER. It was a labor of love, and I did about twelve passes of just painting little panels and such all over. I had to purchase a new and better brush, a PRINCETON #2 Flat Shader, as it was a nice, small size with a great flat edge, that allowed for the cleaner panels than with a standard el-cheapo brush which I have plenty of. For really small details I used a PRINCETON 10/0 Liner. Both are sable brushes and work a lot better on details and on holding paint long enough to do plenty of panels without dipping again. It was an arduous task no matter what, and I had to work up the courage to do it. As for lighting....I gave that some thought, for about 15 minutes, and after seeing several lit models on YouTube, some that look really great to some that are just ok to me ( I find many modelers do too many lights, and with holes too large, as there are only so many teeny drill bits in the world that can go through some of the layers this thing has once built....) So, I decided, NO...I was going to have a nice, painted, non-lit model. It would always look good on the shelf, and I never had to turn it on, or run a cord somewhere. SO, that aside, I did my thing, and am very happy with the result! May the 4th (2024 for the record) and THE FORCE, Be with You! Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and feel free to comment! Les out!
