Cars in a Mercedes-Benz dealership were vandalized, with at least one set on fire, during a George Floyd-related protest in Oakland, California, on May 29, 2020. The dealership was one of a number of businesses in the area which were “heavily damaged” on Friday evening, and during the early hours of May 30 according to local media. Orange County resident Jonathan Rivas, who owns AIO Filmz Media Group, shot footage of the burning car in the Mercedes-Benz showroom. The footage also includes a man jumping on to the hood of a car emblazoned with the slogan “eat the rich” in graffiti. “Vehicles were set on fire, tagged and had their windows broken by demonstrators,” Rivas wrote in a Tweet. A local media report noted that Oakland Police Department detained “60 looters” further investigation following events on the night of May 29, 2020.
