In other videos i’ve done on electronic, digital and kinetic watches , there is always a random British inventor that comes into the picture in the distant past and then there is little mention of Britain from there on in in relation to watches today. In this British watch history I wanted to understand more about why this is and how Bremont , Christopher Ward and others have started to fly the flag again, bringing Britain closer to its rightful place alongside Switzerland, Japan, US and Germany as a place of horological importance. We cover the first mechanical clocks , the evolution of the pocket watch and escapements , the amazing story of solving the longitude problem with John Harrison and his Marine Chronometer, and others, as well as the less active period of the 1800s , hotspots of innovation with things like the co-axial escapement used by Omega and invented by George Daniels - all the way through to the like of Accurist , Roger Smith and other brands that are coming through today. I hope you enjoy the video. #johnharrison #christopherward #watchhistory Should you be enjoying the content and would like to support the channel - why not considering buying me a coffee at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/Illuminating
