I FELL OFF THE CHAINS: THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG. On September 2nd, 2021, the drummer and vocalist of ANYFACES, SERGIO AB was watching an ephemeral LIVE of VIRGINIE (METRÔ band), and was one of the invited guests, exchanging ideas with VIRGINIE. During the conversation, he commented that he is part of the band ANYFACES, whose members work as the pandemic demands, at a distance, in creation, recording, mixing and clips. VIRGINIE liked it and asked to know the sound of the band, so we sent her a teaser video of the song ALL MY DREAMS. VIRGINIE gave it to us soon after and then surprised us with the following comment: "Bravo, great sounding, I liked it, congratulations :). Virginie." Encouraged by the comment, drummer Sergio AB ventured an invitation for VIRGINIE to participate in a musical project with the band ANYFACES, and she, who lately has been making very diverse and very cool partnerships, readily agreed. From there the song I FEEL OFF THE CHAINS began to be created. The keyboardist and also vocalist of ANYFACES, DON CARLOS went to observe VIRGINIE's posts and sayings, and got inspired by them to compose the song, paying attention to her way of seeing life, and also traveling on a photo in which the singer observes, from France, the horizon beyond the sea. (The photo is part of a scene from the music video of the song Abya Yala, partnership with Aline Rochedo Pachamama, from the Puri people of Mantiqueira). DON CARLOS composed thinking also inspired by the unmistakable timbre of voice of VIRGINIE, icon of Brazilian rock. I FEEL OFF THE CHAINS was written in English, but includes a stanza written in French, in homage and citation to VIRGINIE's strong connection with France (Virginie is French-Brazilian) DON CARLOS recorded his voice in São Paulo and I FEEL OF THE CHAINS was sent to VIRGINIE, in Toulouse (France). VIRGINIE then suggested a small change, a word with a broader meaning, the metrics were adjusted, the vocals were assembled, and we continued dialoguing and collaborating in various stages of production. Virginie's voices were recorded in Toulouse. The final result is a beautiful vocal duet between VIRGINIE and DON CARLOS, in this great post-punk pop song that portrays the beautiful energy that we can circulate by strengthening our ties with nature, rediscovering in diversity the strength of self-esteem, defending freedom and searching for inner peace, raising the general mood. To overcome so many pains and try to free ourselves from the restlessness that weighs us down and so often prevents us from moving forward and fighting for our ideals.
