Patients with eustachian tube dysfunction who qualify for ear tubes can choose to do it awake in office or asleep in the OR. This video is ear surgery on an awake patient performed under local anesthesia. Topical phenol is applied with a micro swab, incision made in the ear drum (tympanic membrane with a very small knife and then the pressure equalization tube is placed which will be in place for 6 to 18 months.
