Robert Lewandowski handed Bayern a two-goal lead in the first half, Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sané and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scoring in the second half. The Bavarians lined up with Manuel Neuer in goal and Niklas Süle, Dayot Upamecano, Lucas Hernández and Alphonso Davies in a back four. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka featured in a twin holding role behind Gnabry, Thomas Müller and Sané, with hitman Lewandowski up front. Benjamin Pavard, Jamal Musiala, Marcel Sabitzer, Bouna Sarr and Choupo-Moting took over from Davies, Gnabry, Goretzka, Sané and Lewandowski in the second half.
