U.S. President Joe Biden reportedly called Russian President Vladimir Putin a "crazy son of a b****" during a fundraiser in San Francisco, Calif., on Wednesday, warning there is always the threat of nuclear conflict but that the existential threat to humanity remains climate change. The following day, Putin responded to a reporter’s question about Biden’s “rude” comment by saying that the remark showed why the Kremlin felt that Biden would be a preferable future U.S. president for Russia, in comparison to Donald Trump. "We are ready to work with any president. But I believe that for us, Biden is a more preferable president for Russia. And judging by what he has just said, I am absolutely right," Putin told state television, with a slight smile. Earlier in the day, the Kremlin said that Biden had debased the U.S. by calling Putin a "crazy SOB,” while the U.S. President blamed Putin and "his thugs" for the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny last week.
