Released in October '65 on One-derful! Records, 'Even The Score' just like it's flip, 'Where Will You Be Boy' hold up as well today as they did then. Beverly Shaffer only recorded two discs, but all were wonderful tracks,(no pun intended). She has that girl soprano sound that was evident in so many Chi-Town records in the mid '60's. Produced by Jimmy Jones and Larry Nestor, this record shows that the guys at One-derful, though expert at creating 'hard soul', were equally adept at the smoother, subtle nuanced sound of a talent like Beverly's. For me, there isn't anything much better than this kind of mid tempo Chicago Soul. I just love this record, and Beverly Shaffer should be proud of the music she made as part of the Chi-Town Sound. Beverly Shaffer, another on my list of 'Why didn't they record more?'.
