Hosted by singer-songwriter Tommy Roe (best known for his hits “Sheila” and “Dizzy”), the film features teens having scripted conversations about their opinions and experiences with psychedelic drugs. The conversations are first shown truncated, leaving the viewer to believe that what is being said is declarative or empirical, but then the same footage is later shown in its entirety, revealing that the opinions beings expressed are unfounded or incomplete. Based on the locations seen and referenced, and the accents of the teens speaking, this film was shot in and around New York City. Narrated by Tommy Roe, Executive produced and written by Max Miller, produced and directed by Noel Nosseck, an Avanti/Directions Unltd. Production, presented by American Educational Film, 1971. Psychedelics are a subset of hallucinogenic drugs whose primary effect is to trigger non-ordinary states of consciousness (known as psychedelic experiences or "trips") This causes specific psychological, visual and auditory changes, and often a substantially altered state of consciousness. The "Classical" psychedelics, the psychedelics with the largest scientific and cultural influence, are mescaline, LSD, psilocybin, and DMT. The psychedelic experience is often compared to non-ordinary forms of consciousness such as those experienced in meditation, mystical experiences, and near-death experiences. The phenomenon of ego dissolution is often described as a key feature of the psychedelic experience. Many psychedelic drugs are illegal worldwide, with occasional exceptions for religious use or research contexts. Despite these controls, recreational use of psychedelics is common. Research has been conducted, however, and studies show that psychedelics are physiologically safe and do not lead to addiction. Studies conducted using psilocybin in a psychotherapeutic setting reveal that psychedelic drugs may assist with treating depression and alcohol addiction, and possibly also nicotine addiction. 00:06 TITLE CARD 00:18 Various illegal drugs shown; LSD, peyote, DMT (N,N-Dimethyltryptamine), STP (2,5-Dimethoxy-4-methylamphetamine), mescaline, psilocybin, hashish, marijuana 01:20 LSD on the head of a pin, aspirin for scale 02:22 Tommy Roe introduces himself, talks about LSD 03:19 Two teen girls on a beach 03:24 Teen boy in psychologist’s office 03:34 Teen girl walking 03:39 Two teen boys exiting a chapel or college hall 03:45 Teen girl, parents in a pool 03:51 Teen girl in classroom 03:58 Teen boy and girl on Roosevelt Island, NYC 04:04 Tommy Roe returns 04:26 At a Free Clinic, a psychologist debunks teen boy’s experiences on LSD 05:27 Teen girls on beach continue their conversation 05:54 Teen girl in classroom conversation continued, police officer responds 07:10 Teen boys exiting chapel/college building continue their conversation 07:23 Three teen girls sitting on shag carpet discuss psychedelics 08:31 Teen girl and parents in pool continue their conversation 09:08 Teen girls on tenement rooftop discuss taking LSD 09:52 Teen girl, teacher in classroom discusses chromosomal damage due to LSD usage 11:21 Teens on Roosevelt Island continue their conversation, United Nations Secretariat Building and Queensboro Bridge in background 12:38 Tommy Roe returns, summarizes the message of the film 13:39 CREDITS We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment!
