"Three animal rights campaigners were attacked by greyhound racing supporters tonight at Shelbourne Park Stadium in Dublin” - Sickening video footage filmed by the National Animal Rights Association shows one protestor being pushed out onto the road while another can be heard screaming as she is grabbed by a man who pulls a megaphone from her. NARA said in a statement that “Gardai were called and the victims will be pressing charges." They say that the protestors, calling for a ban on cruel greyhound racing, were also "subjected to non-stop racist and homophobic comments" during the protest. "Please support your local protests,” NARA adds in its statement. “This industry needs to be shut down!" Shelbourne Park stadium is one of the worst in Ireland for dog injuries and deaths. At least 146 greyhounds suffered injuries and 36 were killed by a track vet there over the past four years alone, Irish Greyhound Board statistics show. This includes 41 injuries and 12 deaths last year. As revealed by the recent RTE Investigates programme, 6,000 greyhounds are also shamefully killed nationwide every year because they are too slow to win races. URGENT ACTION ALERT Say NO to the cruel greyhound industry - don't attend greyhound races or fundraisers/hen parties/office parties held at greyhound tracks STOP THE STATE FUNDING FOR GREYHOUND RACING Since 2001, the Irish Government has paid out around a quarter of a billion euros of taxpayers' money to greyhound racing, including €16.8 million for 2019. Following the shocking RTE Investigates revelations about cruelty and killing, it is time for these grants to be finally ended.
