4 Jan 2023: Wow - thank you so much for your views, likes & comments! We are deeply impressed what a little ant can effect :) We have even more (small & big) little animals hidden in our award-winning game app https://kittyq.app - free download in App & Play stores! More fancy videos on our channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/ClusterofExcellencectqmat In 2022 every last Friday of the month we publish a new QUANTube video! In it, our young scientists answer the questions of the players of "KITTY Q". Everyone who unlocks the integrated bonus app can ask us a question. Just search for the stove & picture frame & you' re ready to ask... Description of the ANT WALK: How does the Klein bottle work? The animation explains this from an ant's point of view. The object, named after the mathematician Felix Klein, is a topological curiosity–a so-called "non-orientable surface". Because the Klein bottle is a one-sided surface. So there is no "inside" and "outside"–in contrast to the surface of a sphere. If an ant walks on the Klein bottle, it can reach any point and cannot be caught inside. The orientation of a surface is a topological property. Topology is a branch of mathematics that deals with global properties of objects that remain unchanged when deformed. Topology helps to explain the interior of quantum materials. The Dresden-Würzburg Cluster of Excellence ct.qmat–Complexity and Topology in Quantum Matter explores new quantum materials in high performance laboratories, revealing surprising phenomena under extreme conditions such as ultra-low temperatures, high pressure, or strong magnetic fields. If these special properties can be made applicable under everyday conditions, they could form a basis for revolutionary quantum chips.
