Video Journalist Thomas Finn Hi, I’m John Rossi, and today I’m gonna show you how to tune a guitar with a digital-chromatic-tuner. The first thing you’ll need to know, are the notes that strings are tuned to. In standard tuning of acoustic, and electric guitars, the notes are: E-A-D-G-B-and-E Now, the way this tuner works, is that there’s a marker. If that marker’s straight in the middle, you know you’e in tune. If it’s over to the left, you’re below the note, or flat. If the marker’s to the right, that means you went above the note, or sharp. Okay, so let’s start with our low E Okay so we see that the string is a little to the left, we’re a little flat. So, I’m going to tighten the string, by turning the tuning peg counter clockwise. And once our marker’s in the middle, we’ll be in tune. Next, our A string. We can see that we’re above the note, so let’s loosen the string a bit. Once the tuner tells us all of our strings are in tune, we we’re gonna go ahead a give it the ear test. Sounds good to me. Now you’re ready to play.
