With the Minsk-brokered ceasefire set to begin in a matter of hours, Russian-backed militants have intensified their attempts to encircle Ukrainian forces in the strategically important east Ukrainian town of Debaltseve. Ukrainian army officials reported a rise in the number of fighters and tanks deployed near the village of Logvinove. At least three Ukrainian soldiers were killed during intense clashes in the area on Thursday night, with three more wounded.
