The vacuum cleaner is one of the most convenient household appliances; just plug it in, and it makes short work out of all manner of messes! But is everything safe to be sucked up into the vacuum? Well, no! In this video, we'll take you through the 5 Most Important household messes that should NOT be cleaned up with a vacuum, and why! #1 – LARGE PIECES OF GLASS (0:21) Vacuuming up large pieces of glass is never a good idea. If your vacuum uses a bag, the shards of glass can puncture the bag, rendering it useless, and spilling dust and debris right back onto the floor you just cleaned! Not to mention, the shards of glass can get caught in the hose and become dangerous to remove! Ouch! Even if your vacuum doesn’t have a bag, large pieces of glass can scratch up the inside of the vacuum and cause damage. Don’t do it! #2 – FINE DUST (0:52) Wait, isn’t that what vacuums are for? Not really. Household dust bunnies are ok, but things like sawdust and other tiny particles should really be dealt with by a shop vac rather than your household vacuum! #3 – WET FOOD (1:10) Vacuums aren’t built to absorb moisture so vacuuming up wet ANYTHING should be avoided! Food items like milk or spaghetti sauce should not be vacuumed up. Also, moisture and electricity DON’T MIX! Even though the risk is relatively low, there is still a chance of getting shocked or electrocuted, so better safe than sorry! #4 – FIREPLACE ASHES (1:31) These are a big no-no. Ashes from the fireplace can actually retain heat for days after the fire has gone out, so they can cause damage, and even lead to a fire in your vacuum bag! Not cool! #5 – SMALL METAL OBJECTS (1:55) We’ve all been there. You’re vacuuming away, minding your own business, then PING! Oops, you’ve just sucked up a penny! While vacuuming items like coins, paper clips, or thumb tacks can save you a little bit of elbow grease, they can actually shred up and damage your vacuum, so best to avoid doing it!
