Ubuntu is a Boston-based Reggae/Soul band that aims to promote the ideals of the South African philosophy its named after. Literally translating to, "I am because we are", Ubuntu uses music as a medium to breakdown societal barriers and unite all human beings under one foundation regardless of race, religion, sex, etc. Dedicated to establishing personal connections with fans across the globe, this 9-piece band delivers notoriously high-energy and interactive live performance that rallies everyone around the spirit of Ubuntu. The band was formed in 2015 by Kofi Donkor (lead singer/songwriter) while all of its members were students at the Berklee College of Music. Kofi's plans of a strictly roots-reggae band were quickly thwarted as each person drew upon different musical styles and backgrounds to create a sound that is "genre-bending" to say the least. But this eclectic mix of music in a way symbolized the heart of Ubuntu's message, with influences ranging from soul to funk to world fusion. Ubuntu is currently gigging in the North Eastern United States, and working on their first EP which is scheduled to be released in April 2017.
