The latter half of the 14th Century was certainly a dark period for the people of Christendom, where the crimes of men surpassed even the sins at the of Noah and the worldwide flood. It seemed as if the gates of hell were fully opened and the devil had been unleashed. There was the Great Schism, with as many as three different popes all claiming legitimacy. There was an increase in Black Masses, Satanic rituals with child sacrifice, the rising again of the errors of gnosticism and, of course, that inevitable group of libertines, deviants, and perverts. Seeing the horrible state of His people, the good Lord decided that the time of judgment was come. But before allowing the unleashing of the terrors of the end times, the Almighty would send out an ambassador… an angel of the judgment… to provide a time of mercy and an opportunity for a Nineveh-like repentance. When St. Vincent Ferrer was 46 years old, he became grievously ill. Eventually, Our Lord appeared to him, accompanied by the great mendicant friars, St. Francis and St. Dominic. Our Lord said to Vincent, among other things, Arise, then, and go to preach against vice; for this have I specially chosen thee, Exhort sinners to repentance, for My judgment is at hand. Our Lord told St. Vincent that his preaching before the coming of the Antichrist would be for mankind a merciful occasion of repentance and conversion. Vincent was to be the Angel of the Judgment, as depicted in the Apocalypse of St. John. we find ourselves living in times that mirror the latter half of the 14th Century. Public Satanic rituals, New Age Movements, the child-sacrifice of abortion, libertinism constitutionally protected, and sins that cry to heaven for vengeance being adopted by whole nations as legal institutions and lifestyle choices. A minor apostasy, at least, is present and perhaps a pre-figurement of the Anti-Christ may soon appear. The people of Noah’s time have every right to rise up and witness against us.
