Cane nursing NCLEX review for mobility with assistive device: This review will demonstrate the proper fit of a cane, how to ambulate with a cane (gait), go up and down the stairs with a cane, and how to sit down and get up in a chair with a cane. To ensure proper fit of a cane the cane must be adjusted prior to usage and the top of the cane should be even with the greater trochanter OR even with the wrist crease closest to the hand. In addition, the elbow should be flexed at about a 15-30 degree angle. Before ambulating (during the learning stages) with a cane the patient should wear a gait belt for safety and the nurse should stand on the patient's weak side. The patient will position the cane where the tip of the cane is about 4 inches from the side of the foot. To ambulate with a cane, the patient will hold the cane on the strong side and move the cane forward along with the weak side and then move the strong side. To ambulate up and down the stairs with a cane the patient should remember the "good" leg goes up first when going up the stairs, and the "bad" leg goes down first when down the stairs. Watch the video to see a complete demonstration on how to sit down and get up from a chair with a cane. #canenursing #assistivedevicesnursing #caneNCLEX Quiz: https://www.registerednursern.com/canes-assistive-devices-nclex-questions/ Notes: https://www.registerednursern.com/canes-nursing-nclex-review/ Nursing Gear: https://teespring.com/stores/registerednursern Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/registerednursern_com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RegisteredNurseRNs Twitter: https://twitter.com/NursesRN Website: https://www.registerednursern.com/ More Videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2XMro13dD0&list=UUPyMN8DzkFl2__xnTEiGZ1w Popular Playlists: NCLEX Reviews: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQrdx7rRsKfWtwCDmLHyX2UeHofCIcgo0 Fluid & Electrolytes: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQrdx7rRsKfWJSZ9pL8L3Q1dzdlxUzeKv Nursing Skills: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQrdx7rRsKfUhd_qQYEbp0Eab3uUKhgKb
