A research firm that has been conducting focus groups filled with undecided voters has found a striking similarity among the groups: A large number of voters believe that Donald Trump won't leave office ever if he gets reelected this year. Those fears are not irrational, either, as Trump has hinted on multiple occasions, including last weekend, that he could stay in office longer than two terms. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening. Obviously with the presidential election now less than six months away, research groups, media outlets, they're all doing focus groups of American voters. Right. Getting together about a dozen people, maybe eight, nine people here and there, and getting their feelings and attitudes towards both of the presidential candidates. And according to multiple different groups that have spoken to undecided and moderate voters, there's a similarity between all of these focus groups. There is one main concern that all of these focus groups have. Doesn't matter if it's a Republican focus group, doesn't matter if it's a liberal focus group, media outlet, research firm, a lot of these voters say the same thing and that is, I am afraid that if Donald Trump gets back in office, he will never leave. Let me read you this. The David Binder research group said, told Bloomberg news, quote, we were talking to Latino men and Asian American Pacific Islander women in battleground states, and they went straight to the issue of, what if Trump won't give up power? He said that this is a real concern among voters that the David Binder research group has spoken to. So you've got this group of non-white people and they say, we are worried that if this guy goes back to the White House, he'll never leave. Something that, for the record, Donald Trump has teased as recently as last Saturday in his speech to the NRA. So this is not some weird obscure thing that these people concocted themselves. This is based on things Trump has said for the last eight years. So their fear is valid. It is absolutely not irrational. But what about the Republicans? Well, GOP strategist, Sarah Longwell, she's encountering this fear in focus groups that she has been conducting. At one of them Longwell, who supported Joe Biden in 2020 and is not, and is supporting him against, excuse me, in 2024. She's a never Trump Republican, but still a Republican strategist. She asked voters, quote, does anybody think he may not abide by the 22nd amendment of the Constitution and leave office after the 2028 election? Anyone worried about that? And of the eight people in her focus group, seven of them raised their hands and said, I'm worried he won't leave. In fact, one of them said, quote, I wouldn't put it past him now that he owns the RNC to say, Don Junior's going to do the next term and then he'll get two, and then Barron will get two, and we'll just have some fake monarchy, one of the focus group members said. And again, Trump once again reiterated that he may stay in office longer than a second term a week ago. Okay. So this is not like, oh, well he mentioned it in passing here. He has said it multiple times and he said it within the last week, guys. This is a very real concern, especially when you add in all the project 2025 stuff, then you start to get the picture of, well, wait a minute. Trump's gonna remake the DOJ, he's gonna staff 50,000 Trump loyalists in these government positions, which is the Project 2025 plan. They've already started interviewing people. So again, this is not an irrational fear. It's something that they're planning. And if he has all those little pegs in place, he could absolutely skirt the constitution somehow. I mean, he already owns the Supreme Court, so who's to stop him? And that's the problem. There would be nobody. The joint chiefs of staff, top military brass, he's gonna replace them all with his loyalists and if he does that, there would be no stopping him.
