After discussing the pessimistic message of Firewatch, exploring the effects of escapism on humans, and analyzing the role of children and responsibility, it’s time to tackle the game as a whole. Although there are moments in which the completely valid criticisms of the game are absolutely justified, I believe taking Firewatch apart piece by piece is the wrong approach to viewing the game as it is best appreciated as a holistic experience. Firewatch is by no means the “best” indie game out there, but I sincerely believe it is a masterpiece nonetheless.
