At least 49 foreign workers were killed in a building fire in Kuwait on Wednesday, the country’s Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud al-Sabah confirmed during a visit to the site. Al-Sabah accused real estate owners of violations and greed, suggesting those factors were related to the incident. “Unfortunately the greed of the property owners is what leads to these matters,” he said. "Any property violation will be removed [by] early morning," al-Sabah said. "This is the decision that should have been imposed a long time ago and be implemented in the municipality, but unfortunately there was neglect from the part of real estate dealers." The building in the southern city of Mangaf reportedly housed dozens of workers. Though the nationalities of the dead were not immediately disclosed, India's ambassador to Kuwait visited hospitals where surviving workers are being treated.
