In this video of the series, Anna Marie Clark shares research results that demonstrate the importance of paid work experience vs. non-paid work experience for individuals affected by disability. Not discounting the value of non-paid work experiences, however, paid work experience correlates to higher incidence of finding post high school employment. It provides the individual with feeling of value and purpose in society. Ann Marie shares her strategies related to finding this paid work experience: 1) Start the process early. Identify the individual’s strengths, weaknesses, interests, gifts, 2) Find some long-term paid work experiences outside of school, 3) Consider research- based work experiences when writing transition goals.
