To view our comprehensive websites please visit us on the web at: www.ourfolkfestival.com This Video plays the highlights of a 5-String Banjo Demonstration for this elementary school's First and Second graders, presented by an Our Folk Festival Instructor at two recent all-day programs for a NYC Public School. The First and Second Graders were entertained with a 45-minute Assembly-Format Performance of traditional American and World Folk Music. In addition to player introductions, the Instruments used in the Performance were also briefly introduced to the students This was followed by a 45-minute Assembly-Format session featuring demonstrations of the five instruments used to perform this music for them. American Folk Music Instruments Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin, Autoharp, and Dulcimer were re-introduced to the students describing these instruments' history, parts, and special attributes. Musical passages were played for the students to demonstrate the instruments. After the Lunch break, approximately 100 Third Graders, 100 Fourth Graders, and 100 Fifth Graders participated in separate 45-minute Song and Instrument Workshops for each grade. Students learned about the song and played Our Folk Festival's high-quality Washburn Guitars, Banjos, and Mandolins. These instruments are configured with our proprietary easy-to-play set-ups and "open tunings". In our Song and Instrument Workshops, Students were taught basic rhythms, melodies, and lyrics to Folk Music "standards" Bling-Blang, by Woody Guthrie, and Iko Iko, by James "Sugar Boy" Crawford.
