I'll always remember this in "Caddyshack" when Dangerfield says "Play something hot, will ya!' and this song explodes onscreen! "Boogie Wonderland" is one of the era's greatest disco songs, the soaring string section over a pumping rhythm section, dense percussion and the glorious voices of Maurice White, Philip Bailey and the Emotions all blend together for an unforgettable experience. EWF kept putting out catchy and contemporary sounds that kept the funk alive, just prior to this single was the classic "September". I remember hearing them for the first time as the backing band for Ramsey Lewis "Sun Goddess", putting funk into a jazz tune that still makes me think of sunny days. "I Am' was their foray into disco and also contains the R&B classic "After The Love Has Gone". The album was chock full of African rhythms using the kalimbas while deftly folding in synthesizers. I listen to that CD from start to end, its so evocative of the state of pop music at the time. Everyone should know that this was not the first collaboration of EWF and The Emotions, who benefited from their best known alliance on "Best Of My Love" in 1977.
