Amandla, which means power in the Nguni languages isiZulu and isiXhosa, is a word that calls power for the black people - and people at large. It is a stance of strength, of force and of potency. And the perfect commanding title for Deep Sen & King Talkzin’s debut EP Amandla, which is released under Oskido’s groundbreaking recording project, Legend Live - a new music label that is focused on developing young artists. The duo, who tag teamed with the Mzansi’s music maestro himself, release a tranquil eight-track amapiano body of work that explores sounds and melodies, while also touching on various themes - with love at the heart of it all. The blend of vocalists featured each honour the almost contradictory feel of the project; a cross between an almost light and flimsy feel while also carrying a dynamic and unavoidable messaging with every song. Right through the project, the music carries with it soulful, almost private school like elements of the popular genre - leaning more on the house genre side of things. A refreshing EP that coincides with the new season that is upon us. ABOUT THE SONG: Uxolo is another simple soulful song yet undeniably amapiano through and through. It carries a tribal element represented on the repetitive chants heard on the bridge that further puts a stamp of it being a proudly South African product.
