ICO 「イコ」is an action adventure game developed by Team ICO, headed by Fumito Ueda, the creative mind that also went on to bring us Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian. Published for the Sony PlayStation 2 in 2001 in Japan and NA, and 2002 in PAL territories, ICO promised a unique premise that until that point had not been seen in a game before. Using features that would later find their way into games such as Uncharted, much later, ICO stands apart from other Action Adventure titles with its unique spin on the genre. We take on the role of the titular Ico, a boy who has been shunned by the mortal world because of his unique horns that are suggested to be a bad omen. Shackled into a casket and left to die, he finds fortune when the foundations beneath his tomb crumble, allowing him to tumble out. As he gains his bearings and begins to explore the abandoned castle he finds Yorda, a girl who has also been imprisoned. Ico decides that he needs to protect her, and thus they attempt to escape the castle together. Often considered as a work of art, is ICO worth your time in modern days?
